WHY ACERBIC CANDOR MATTERS

The biggest entertainment news of the week is this:   Nikke Finke will be dishing on Hollywood again – soon.   On February 1, several media sources noted that Nikki added “Penske Business Media Sr. Editorial Contributor” to her twitter bio.  By Februry 2, the story was everywhere, in all the trades.

This is significant because Nikki Finke and Jay Penske have a storied legal past ever since he fired her after purchasing Deadline Hollywood, which she founded.

As readers of this blog know, niceness matters to me.  Since Nikki isn’t known for her niceness, why is this the biggest entertainment story of the week for me?   Because with Nikki, honesty > niceness.  With Nikki, who has hundreds of sources within the ranks of Hollywood’s elite, all that matters is the truth.

Aristotle definition of Truth is:  “To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true.”— and Nikki Finke is known for sorting out the false from the true.

Nikki Finke’s special brand of acerbic candor used to make headlines.  I’m sure it will again.  Why is this important?  Because honesty keeps our industry, well, honest.  Nikki Finke is known for shining a light into the industry’s dark places.  Light is the greatest disinfectant.

Sometimes the truth screams to be told.  Sometimes the truth whispers into your ear like a former lover.  Sometimes the truth hurts.  Nikki Finke is back — and she will always deliver the truth.
